Concept website design for a food photographer & stylist

Anna Harvey Food Photography

Project overview

Anna Harvey is a food photographer and stylist who works with some of the UK's leading media publications and big name food brands. Based in Bristol, UK, Anna has more than 20 years of experience. She has written a book for budding food photographers who want to improve their work.

She wanted a modern and minimal website website that showcases her work with personality and flair.

Drawing inspiration from Anna's photography portfolio, I embraced her natural 'scandi-chic' style and muted tones to create depth.

The design integrates editorial styling prevalent in contemporary branding across text elements and image layouts, resulting in a sophisticated yet approachable aesthetic.

Website design elements

Anna's website has two primary objectives:

  1. Increase service inquiries.

  2. Sell copies of her book.

To achieve these goals, I implemented the following design elements:

Hero area

The homepage features one of Anna's award-winning photographs, paired with a prominent button linking to her service offerings. This immediately engages visitors and directs them to explore her services.

Portfolio navigation

Rather than an overwhelming, endless scroll of photographs common on competitor sites, I categorised Anna's portfolio by customer type:

  • Bars, breweries & vineyards

  • Restaurants

  • Cookbooks & magazines

  • Coffee shops & cafes

This categorisation allows prospective clients to easily find the relevant sections of her portfolio, enhancing the user experience and making navigation intuitive.

Book promotion

To support book sales, I included a "Buy My Book" button in the header navigation. Additionally, a dedicated section on the homepage highlights the book, encouraging visitors to learn more and make a purchase.

Social proof

Just below the hero section, I showcased client logos to build credibility. I also featured a testimonial from one of Anna's favourite clients, providing authentic social proof of her expertise and the quality of her work.

This cohesive design not only highlights Anna's stunning photography but also ensures a seamless and engaging user experience, ultimately driving service inquiries and book sales.
